How we source and update our data
BotLineage is a reference site. Its usefulness depends entirely on the data being accurate, dated and traceable, so here is exactly how every page is put together.
Primary sources first
Model facts — release dates, context windows, licences, inputs and outputs — come from the developer's own announcement, model card or API documentation. Where a vendor is vague, we say so rather than guessing. Reputable technical coverage and peer-reviewed papers are used to add context, never to replace a primary figure.
Everything carries a date
Model profiles show a “last verified” date, and comparisons show when they were last updated. AI moves quickly: a figure without a date is not a fact, it is a rumour with formatting. If a date looks old, treat the page as historical.
AI assistance, human review
Some explanatory prose and comparison analysis is drafted with AI assistance, then checked against the cited sources before publication. AI is never used to invent specifications, benchmark numbers or release dates. The on-page assistant answers questions from the data shown on that page and is clearly labelled as generated.
What we deliberately avoid
- • Leaderboard-chasing benchmark tables we cannot verify or reproduce.
- • Pricing figures that change weekly, unless a comparison needs relative cost.
- • Rumoured or unannounced models presented as released.
- • Affiliate-driven “best model” rankings.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and update the verification date. Include the page and, where possible, a primary source.
